چکیده

Time is not just a parameter of auditory disply, but is rather the principle dimension within which all other auditory parameters are placed. While this is a feature of time ordered information, it poses a particular challenge to effective sonification of time-independent data, such as images. In this paper we present two concepts of time mapping, scanning and probing to provide a framework for conceptualizing mappings of static data to the time domain. We then consider the geometric characteristics of images to define meaningful references in time. Finally, we proceed to suggest a new approach of modeling human image perception for image sonification, which can be designed upon our framework.

Application of Image Sonification Methods to Music

To utilize visual information for musical purpose, inevitable time-based nature of sound should be understood and considered. Time is the principle dimension within which all other auditory parameters are placed, and this poses a particular challenge to effective sonification of time independent images and their applications to music. In this paper we present two concepts of time mapping, scann...

A Formalised Approach to Designing Sonification Systems for Network-Security Monitoring

Sonification systems, in which data are represented through sound, have the potential to be useful in a number of network-security monitoring applications in Security Operations Centres (SOCs). Security analysts working in SOCs generally monitor networks using a combination of anomaly-detection techniques, Intrusion Detection Systems and data presented in visual and text-based forms. In the las...

Skin Pattern Sonification Using NMF-based Visual Feature Extraction and Learning-based PMSon

This paper describes the use of sonification to represent the scanned image data of skin pattern of the human body. Skin Patterns have different characteristics and visual features depending on the positions and conditions of the skin on the human body. The visual features are extracted and analyzed for sonification in order to broaden the dimensions of data representation and to explore the di...

Spotty: Imaging Sonification Based on Spot-mapping and Tonal Volume

A basic question at image sonification is the image segmentation. A cognitive model of visual processing in a greater degree could define possible ways of sound mapping. For instance, the scanpath theory suggests that a top-down internal cognitive model, of what we see, drives the sequences of rapid eye movements and fixations or glances that so efficiently travel over scene or picture of inter...
